One of the great ways in which StudioBuzz helps its subscribed artists/vendors, is to act as a virtual store for selling creative freelance services. Every artist registered with StudioBuzz is able to create portfolios of their work, but also to create standardized yet fully customized packages to be sold directly from the site.
No other creative buying/selling site provides this customized service at fixed prices feature; it is something entirely unique to StudioBuzz.
Many artist are not be used to working in this way.
Beyond the Portfolio:
Usually, you start with an excellent profile with a well stocked with impressive samples of past jobs. But why stop there, will a little more effort you can make these samples sell for you. Simply, package them for resale. Here is a short list of bullet points to follow when creating a package in this way:
- Make sure the product fits – Some kinds of services and products fit a standard package better than others. For example, logo design is fairly straightforward, and most logos take a similar amount of time to develop, therefore they could fit a standard package. On the other hand, something such as “produce a 200 page catalog”, tends to be far more complex, and would need to be specified fully by the buyer and then quoted upon by the provider; this would not suit a standard package unless you broke it down into smaller pieces. ie. Catalog Re-design Services – I will redesign your entire catalog (does not include production) …
- Define your package well – Specify in great detail everything which the package includes. Additionally, make sure the cost is fixed, and that a clear delivery time is stated. Imagine buyers have a check list in their head, your package needs to satisfy everything on this list, so don’t leave anything out.
- Define your options and the differential cost associated with that option. i.e. Letter size = Standard while Legal Size may add $10 to price.
- Set up scaled packages – An article writer may for instance have a package for 5 articles, a package for 10 articles and a package for 15 articles, all of which are similar, yet entirely separate packages. Not every buyer is looking for the same quantity. These would be listed as three separate products.
- Price by industry – The same package may sell for more in the aerospace industry than the garment industry. We can make two different listings, with different prices and under different categories.
- Pictures speak a thousand words – And so do videos, animations, diagrams and illustrations. Where possible make sure you include high quality samples of previous work in your packages. For video artists, we can host your videos economically. We do not allow any self hosting or YouTube videos to be add to your product pages.
- Be flexible – If you are contacted by a buyer who wants’ you to change your package a little to suit them, then be ready to make those changes. We sell custom work, there are sure to be some needed changes. Keep that in mind when you price.
- Don’t over deliver – Many freelancers feel they have to give that little extra value to clients. And whilst this is a fine concept, over a year or so it can add up to a large amount of un-billed work time. A standard package should be delivered as it was specified, nothing left out and nothing added for free.
- Tweak your stock – If some packages sell better than others, then start looking for the reason why, and change your non-sellers to reflect this.
There we have it; just a few quick tips on how to start selling standard packages via StudioBuzz, and exploit this entirely new conduit for vending outsourced services.
